Revival time for Fougères
Fougères are my absolute favourite type of Eau de Cologne and I don't need much of an excuse to create a new one or to try and replicate a classic. The incredible blend of oakmoss and fern into a sharp yet slightly sweet fragrance that fills the nose completely but is so light never fills me with delight.
One thing I've never understood is why fougères haven't really penetrated the market with any real force. Sure some of the big brands have a solitary fougère on offer, and sadly, some of those aren't even available today save the odd Ebay listing for a bottle which can't have much of any scent left. And even when the some of the big players push and push a lovely fougère and men get to sample it they seem to send up settling on a more spicy and striking scent for themselves.
I almost always wear a fougère during the day and will sometimes even wear one in the evening. I'm complimented endlessly when I wear a fougère and am constantly asked what I'm wearing.
Recently, two separate clients have asked me to create unique fougères. Neither asked for it by name but the colognes they referred to are definitely classified as fougères and have woody tones amongst the vetiver and geranium. Creating a new perfume is always a joy for me but creating my favourite type is almost like a little gift.
Ladies: if you want to gift your man with a scent you will love and take him out of his comfort zone try a fougère. The mossy natural aroma with hints of citrus, bergamot and sandalwood will tantalise your senses. Gentlemen: Looking to catch the eye of a lady and attract attention with a sophisticated and understated fresh cologne - you know what to do.
